Phase 2 Procedure:
- Each student will present 4* lessons in class.
- Each presentation will count as a part of the point value for report #2.
- Students will present in groups of 4 people: 1 presenter at a time, 3 audience members/notetakers at a time.
- The same people will occupy the same group for all 4* lessons (if possible).
- Each person will present 1 lesson per day to their group for 4* consecutive class days. If a student is absent, then they are expected to present their lesson via some other means (e.g., audio and/or video), or they are expected to double up and do two presentations in class in a single day. If they go the “other means” route, then they are requested to submit this other means for viewing during the day that they are absent, and they are required to submit this other means by the class period following the day that they were absent.
- 15 minutes will be given for each lesson
- Students are advised to give 10 minute presentations and to leave 5 minutes for questions, explorations, feedback, and clarifications.
- Students are required to use visuals.
- These lessons will be derived from the blue and/or the green book. Google resources and alternative texts can be utilized to supplement readings.
- 1 green book chapter = 1 lesson
- 1 blue book chapter = 1-4 lesson(s)
- People occupying the same group cannot present on the same text. So for example, only one student can present on chapter 1 per group, if they are presenting on the entire chapter. If, for example, they are presenting on the first half of the chapter, then someone else in the group can’t present on this half but could present on the next half – assuming that they can jump in at the second half of the text with sufficient understanding to do so. Therefore, if you want to be in the same group as someone, then don’t teach the same material as them.
- Because no one in the same group will be teaching the same lesson, every group of 4 will cover 16* different lessons in 4* days.
- If you want to present on a particular text, let me know. Requesting texts works on a first come first serve basis. If you do not request some texts, then you will be assigned them.
- Tip for blue book: the first five chapters are perhaps the most important in the book, in terms of building a basic understanding of sociology. This is not to say that the other chapters aren’t useful, though.
- When you are not presenting, you are in the audience of some presenter, and you are taking notes.
- Your 4 lessons will be compiled into report #2 and posted on the blog.
- You’ll be given a minimum & a maximum of one draft submission of report #2, which must be submitted prior to the submission-cutoff date (see schedule below).
- Templates: lesson-giving, note-taking, and reading templates will be provided.
- The note-taking template is given to help facilitate your audience learning & participation experience.
- The reading template is designed to help you read your text.
- The lesson-giving template is designed to help you make your lesson and your report. It’s completion makes up a large part of report #2’s point value.
